The Denomination of Origin is officially recognised in 1971 (DOC), after
centuries of history from a sweet wine to the dry wine of today.
Thanks to local varieties, such as Grechetto, Procanio e Verdello, this is a wine capable of fully representing the territory, depending on which side of Orvieto it comes from. Together with volcanic and clay soil, there are areas characterized by the presence of sand and marine origin fossils.
Today more producers are committed to evaluate the Denomination and the territory, to bring back the glory of an ancient tradition.
